Pelvic Surgery

Pre_Post surgery

For some patients, pelvic surgery may be warranted. Examples of pelvic surgery could be:

● Prolapse repair.
● Incontinence surgery.
● Hysterectomy.
● Prostatectomy.

Pelvic health Physiotherapists work closely with other medical professionals (General Practitioners, Gynaecologists, Urogynaecologists etc) to ensure that the patient is receiving the best possible care and onward referral as needed.

Like any surgery, we want to ensure that the patient is in the best possible physical health prior to the operation. For pelvic surgeries, this may include optimising bladder/bowel function, pelvic floor strength and general musculoskeletal health.

Surgeons will usually give a post-operative protocol to the treating Physiotherapist. This ensures that the patient is undergoing appropriate rehabilitation so that specific and time-sensitive milestones are being achieved.
