What can I expect from my Myotherapy consultation?

Massage

Form & Practice is lucky enough to have had some exceptional myotherapists as part of our team over its many years of serving the Hills Community. “Myo’s” come with a very broad skillset of assessment and treatment techniques for a range of musculoskeletal conditions. I’ve written below about some of the things you may experience during a consultation with a myotherapist at Form & Practice:

  • A session will always start with a thorough assessment to determine the cause of pain and therefore be able to make a safe and effective treatment plan for the client.
  • Trigger point therapy – The pressure of trigger point therapy ‘reprograms’ the neuromuscular system so that pain decreases. This encourages the muscles to return to their normal state and promotes healing, less inflammation and the individual experiences reduced pain and tightness.
  • Dry needling helps to relax muscle spasm and myofascial trigger points (knots in the muscle) to improve muscle function. It can assist with pain relief, reduce inflammation and improve local immune/healing responses.
  • Joint mobilisation techniques improve range of motion, reduce pain, and improve the mechanics of a joint.
  • Cupping is a very popular technique. It can do a few things such as:
  • Release scar tissue and fascial adhesions.
    1. Reduce painful trigger points.
    2. Improve blood flow and lymphatic circulation
    3. Relieve pain.
    4. Promote joint mobility and range of motion.
    5. Decrease toxins.
  • We are lucky enough to have an Infrared heat lamp which also has a few treatment benefts such as:
    1. Improve blood flow and circulation
    2. Relax muscles as well as heal damaged tissue.
    3. Relief of muscle and joint pain and stiffness
    4. Loosen fascia and other connective tissues
    5. Accelerate the natural healing processes of the body.
    6. Reduce inflammation
  • Prescription of corrective exercise – An important step to restore optimal body function. Corrective exercise are given to strengthen weak muscles and stretching for tight muscles to improve postures/movements that might cause pain
  • And many other treatment techniques and strategies!
